A year ago, The Young and the Restless’ Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) was deep in a romance with Claire Newman (Hayley Erin), the long-lost daughter of Victoria Newman and Cole Howard (J. Eddie Peck). Now, Kyle is about to embark on a romance with his ex-girlfriend’s mother, something Amelia Heinle did not see coming.
Y&R Tries Something New
After several years of serial kidnapping stories and corporate machinations, Y&R is going where fans never expected. Kyle and Victoria began growing closer over the last few months as they realized they had more in common than they thought. Claire and Kyle broke up months ago, so they are both free agents, but romance did not seem to be in the cards for this unlikely pair.
“At one point a while back, I noticed Kyle was always coming to talk to Victoria or we’d run into each other and I told Michael, ‘I don’t think they would ever put us together, but this is kind of funny because it feels like they’re trying to test our chemistry, which would be really, really odd,’” Heinle explained in an interview with TV Insider.

A few months later, Executive Producer Sally McDonald informed Heinle that her suspicions were correct and Kyle and Victoria would be paired. This week, Victoria has proposed a new business idea to Kyle, hoping they can work together to revive the cosmetics company, Vibrante. While they discuss the matter in the Jabot offices, things finally get steamy between Kyle and Victoria.
Still, there’s this little matter of Claire. She might have moved on with Holden (Nathan Owens), but that doesn’t necessarily mean she wants to see her mother dating her ex-boyfriend.
“I think there are a couple of instances where Victoria talks to Claire and gets her to admit that she’s really over Kyle, in a very subtle way, just to make sure,” Heinle teased in TV Insider. “And also, part of her, I’m sure, is feeling a little guilty, but she doesn’t quite want to admit that yet. They’re going to just keep it a secret, and it’s the furthest thing from their minds that anyone will ever find out.”
