Taylor Sheridan's Dutton Ranch now has a filming timeline for season 2.
The Yellowstone sequel show now has a filming window for season 2, not long after season 1 wrapped up. The show follows Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler after the end of Yellowstone, building a new life on a ranch in southern Texas. However, as new problems arise and the past begins haunting them, the pair and their adopted son, Carter, are forced into a conflict that they'll need every ounce of strength to overcome. The show was a major streaming success on Paramount+, leading to a season 2 renewal in June 2026, well before season 1's final episodes.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dutton Ranch season 2 is expected to begin filming in early 2027. The show's team of writers is poised to begin drafting season 2 soon, meaning the rest of 2026 will be spent writing and refining scripts before the episodes go into production. Speaking about Beth and her role in the series, actor Kelly Reilly stated, "Now we get to make a show that we really are proud of." It sounds like season 2 will be upping the stakes, while giving the show what it needs to deliver new, dramatic heights.
Dutton Ranch season 1 ended with a number of major story developments, from the end of the 10-Petals crime organization to Joaquin killing Rob-Will in the final episode. This lays the groundwork for some intense new storylines as Beth and Rip continue fighting for their ranch against enemies that want to see their lives torn apart. Although season 2's filming start has been revealed, a release window hasn't been confirmed. But, with filming not beginning until early 2027, it sounds like the wait for more episodes could be at least another year.

The cast of Dutton Ranch emphasizes how the show is a new step for the franchise, with Beth, Rip, and Carter as the only core returnees from Yellowstone. Luckily, their stories are bolstered by the new characters, while keeping the trio centered. It's why reviews for Dutton Ranch have been so positive; the show currently holds a Certified Fresh 89% Rotten Tomatoes score based on 37 critic reviews. It also holds an 83% rating from audiences based on over 250 ratings, a sign of how well the series was developed, and how highly-anticipated its return is.
Dutton Ranch is just one of multiple core Yellowstone spinoffs ongoing or in development. CBS' Marshals follows Kayce Dutton as he joins a team of US Marshals, tackling various cases in a police procedural style. Marshals season 2 is set to begin on October 11, 2026. At least two other spinoff are also in development, a prequel titled 1944, and a show about the Four Sixes Ranch, titled 6666. Beth and Rip's story is just one part of the larger narrative, but it's one that will continue as a crucial continuation of the franchise.
Although its filming date means information will be sparse in the months to come, Dutton Ranch is promising an even bigger season 2 that lives up to the hype of everything season 1 set up. Though the wait will be long, Reilly thinks it will be worthwhile, implying a strong continuation of the show once season 2's development finally gets underway.
