Seth Rogen Says Emma Watson Likely Had Valid Reasons for Leaving ‘This Is the End’ Set

It’s been over a decade since the star-studded apocalypse comedy This Is the End crashed into theaters, but one legendary behind-the-scenes rumor is officially setting the internet ablaze again.

Seth Rogen is finally opening up about the day Emma Watson famously walked off the set, and it turns out, the Harry Potter alum may have had the right idea after all.

While Watson’s cameo as an axe-wielding, water-stealing version of herself remains a fan-favorite moment, Rogen is pulling back the curtain on a specific sequence that was simply a bridge too far for the actress.

The scene in question? A wild, raunchy moment involving Danny McBride as a cannibalistic wasteland king and a surprise appearance by Channing Tatum as his leash-wearing “gimp.”

In a candid interview with British GQ, Rogen admitted that the sheer absurdity of the moment didn’t quite translate from the script to the stage.

“I think sometimes when you read something when it comes to life, it doesn’t seem to be what you thought it was,” Rogen shared.

Social media users on X and TikTok have long fueled rumors of “diva” behavior or massive tension on set, but Rogen is quick to shut down the drama. In fact, he insists Watson was the ultimate professional throughout the awkward ordeal.

“It was not some terrible ending to our relationship,” Rogen clarified. “She came back the next day to say goodbye. She helped promote the film. No hard feelings.”

The comedian even went as far as to admit that Watson’s instincts might have actually saved the movie’s ending. After she voiced her discomfort with the cannibalism angle, the creative team decided to pivot.

“She was probably right,” Rogen joked. “It was probably funnier the way we ended up doing it.”

While the final cut was a massive success—grossing over $ million worldwide—the culture shock for Watson was undeniable.

James Franco, who also starred in the film, noted at the time that the loose, raunchy atmosphere of a Rogen set was a far cry from the highly structured world of the Wizarding World.

“I did get the sense that she’d never done a movie like this before,” Franco previously said. “I mean, she really went for it, but I could see that it was like, ‘Oh, this is not how they shot Harry Potter.’”

Despite the awkwardness of the “gimp” scene, Rogen remains a massive fan of Watson’s comedic chops and her willingness to jump into the chaos in the first place.

“I did not think she would do it, but she did, and she’s f—ing hilarious,” he raved.

It seems that even in the middle of a fictional apocalypse, there are some lines you just don’t cross—especially when they involve Channing Tatum on a leash!
