Next Week, Tom Hardy’s Must-Watch Gritty Western Thriller Officially Releases On HBO Max

Tom Hardy commands the screen with rare intensity and remarkable versatility, effortlessly slipping into complex and psychologically charged roles across independent cinema, Hollywood blockbusters, and television. His most memorable performances include the post-apocalyptic thrill ride Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), Christopher Nolan's action-packed blockbusters Inception (2010), The Dark Knight Rises (2012), and Dunkirk (2017), alongside the Venom movies (2018–2024) and the popular series Peaky Blinders (2014–2022).

Tom Hardy's most acclaimed performance has come in The Revenant, Alejandro G. Iñárritu's 2015 film following frontiersman Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) on a fur trading expedition in the 1820s, who fights for survival after being mauled by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team. Following its original debut over a decade ago, The Revenant is releasing on HBO Max on September 1.

The Revenant's September 2026 HBO Max Release Comes At The Perfect Time

The Revenant is releasing on HBO Max at the perfect time, right before Tom Hardy's anticipated return in MobLand season 2, which is set to premiere on September 18. The series stars Hardy as Harry Da Souza, a street-smart fixer who works for the Harrigan crime family led by Conrad (Pierce Brosnan) and Maeve Harrigan (Helen Mirren), and becomes caught in the crossfire with another warring crime family.

Hardy's return in MobLand season 2 has been the subject of much interest ever since he was initially reported to have left the series after finishing the second season, reportedly due to "friction" with showrunner Jez Butterworth. Later reports clarified that Hardy had not been fired, and the following month, it was confirmed that he would return for a potential third season alongside Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren.

Since The Revenant is widely remembered as the role that finally won Leonardo DiCaprio his first Academy Award, it's easy to forget that Tom Hardy also received a nod for Best Supporting Actor, the only Oscar nomination of his career. Hardy earned recognition for his intense portrayal of the ruthless and greedy trapper John Fitzgerald, the primary villain who betrays Hugh Glass and leaves him fighting for survival in the freezing wilderness after the devastating bear attack.

Right alongside DiCaprio, Hardy endured the grueling months-long shoot in Calgary and met every one of the production's extreme physical demands. His remarkable performance in The Revenant also capped off a remarkable 2015 career peak that also included Mad Max: Fury Road and Legend, further cementing his versatility and singular screen presence.
