Jennifer Lawrence Jokes New Movie with Robert Pattinson is ‘Total Revenge’ After Being Rejected for ‘Twilight’

Jennifer Lawrence is proving that good things really do come to those who wait—even if it takes years and a little bit of “revenge.”

The Hunger Games icon is finally teaming up with Robert Pattinson for the new psychological thriller Die, My Love, and she’s looking back at the role that almost brought them together nearly two decades ago.

While hitting the red carpet for the film’s premiere, Lawrence was asked by Variety if working with the former Twilight heartthrob felt like a full-circle moment. Her answer was pure J-Law.

“Yeah, it’s the total revenge that I’ve wanted,” the actress joked, referencing her infamous failed audition for the role of Bella Swan.

Longtime fans might remember Lawrence’s appearance on The Rewatchables podcast, where she got candid about trying out for the hit YA franchise. According to Lawrence, the casting directors weren’t exactly sold on her as the lip-biting protagonist.

“They turned me down immediately,” she recalled at the time. “I didn’t even get a callback.”

Of course, the role of Bella ultimately went to Kristen Stewart, and the rest is history. Lawrence famously went on to lead The Hunger Games as Katniss Everdeen, while Pattinson became a global sensation as the sparkly vampire Edward Cullen.

Now, the two titans of YA cinema are playing husband and wife in Lynne Ramsay’s Die, My Love. But don’t expect a cozy romance in the woods of Forks.

The film is described as a “psychological dramedy” that follows Grace (Lawrence) and Jackson (Pattinson) as they navigate a shared psychosis triggered by Grace’s struggle with postpartum depression.

The buzz on social media has been electric since the “revenge” comments went viral. “Imagine an alternate universe where Jennifer Lawrence was Bella… the chemistry would have been wild!” one fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Over on TikTok, fans are celebrating the pairing as the ultimate crossover event for the s generation. “Katniss and Edward finally united, my teenage heart is healed,” another user commented.

Critics are already raving about the duo’s onscreen dynamic. The film currently holds an impressive % score on Rotten Tomatoes, with reviewers calling Lawrence’s performance “earth-shattering.”

ScreenRant’s Graeme Guttmann praised the balance the two stars bring to the dark story, noting that Lawrence’s “flashes of anger and violence” are perfectly matched by Pattinson’s presence.

For Lawrence, the film marks a triumphant return to form following recent projects like No Hard Feelings and Causeway. For Pattinson, it’s a high-stakes follow-up to this year’s Mickey .

While they both took paths that led to massive superhero franchises—Lawrence in X-Men and Pattinson in The Batman—it seems their most anticipated collaboration is this “uncomfortable” and “unique” thriller.

After nearly years of waiting for their paths to cross, it’s clear that Lawrence’s version of “revenge” is a dish best served on the big screen.

Die, My Love officially hits theaters on November .
