Emma Stone Shaves Her Head on Camera for New Film — and Jennifer Lawrence Tried to Talk Her Out of It!

Emma Stone is taking “method acting” to a whole new level.

The two-time Academy Award winner is currently the talk of social media after revealing that she shaved her real hair on camera for her upcoming sci-fi thriller, Bugonia.

The film, which reunites Stone with her frequent collaborator Yorgos Lanthimos, features a pivotal, high-stakes scene where Stone’s character is forcibly shaved in the backseat of a stolen Range Rover.

While fans are used to seeing the star transform for roles like Bella Baxter in Poor Things, this physical sacrifice has sent the internet into a frenzy.

However, not everyone was on board with the buzzcut at first. In a recent interview with Vogue, Stone’s longtime best friend Jennifer Lawrence admitted she tried to stage a hair intervention.

“I really didn’t want her to shave her head,” Lawrence told the outlet, proving she’s the protective friend we all need. “I had already lived through the Billie Jean King haircut.”

Despite her initial reservations, J-Law couldn’t help but gush over the final result. “Honestly, she looked beautiful,” Lawrence added. “She pulled it off.”

For Stone, the decision was deeply personal and surprisingly emotional. The actress reflected on her mother’s own hair loss during breast cancer treatment, which put the “sacrifice” into perspective.

“I remember thinking: ‘She actually did something brave. I’m just shaving my head,’” Stone shared. In a humorous twist, Stone noted that her mother wasn’t worried at all—she was actually “jealous” of the chic new look!

The actress also revealed a quirky behind-the-scenes detail: before she lost her own locks, she got to shave director Yorgos Lanthimos’ head first. Stone described the vibe on set as a mix of adrenaline and “no better feeling in the world.”

Her co-star Jesse Plemons reportedly felt the weight of the moment, too. Stone recalled him reacting to the transformation with a sense of duty, saying, “Here we go—Emily has shaved her head. We better make this good.”

Bugonia, a remake of the South Korean cult classic Save the Green Planet!, stars Plemons and Aidan Delbis as conspiracy theorists who kidnap a powerful CEO (Stone), convinced she is actually an alien.

This marks the fourth time Stone and Lanthimos have teamed up, following the massive success of The Favourite and Poor Things. Given their track record, fans on X (formerly Twitter) are already predicting another Oscar nod for the star.

“If Emma Stone is shaving her head for Yorgos, we are about to witness cinema history,” one fan tweeted, while another joked, “Is there anything Emma Stone won’t do for the bit? We have to stan.”

Between the alien conspiracies, the stolen Range Rover, and the real-life buzzcut, Bugonia is shaping up to be the must-watch cinematic event of .

The film is set to hit theaters on Oct. , —giving us just enough time to prepare for what will undoubtedly be Stone’s most daring performance yet.
