Felicity Jones Gets Candid About the One Movie That Changed Everything: ‘Everything Sort of Came Together’

Felicity Jones is taking a trip down memory lane, and she’s pinpointing the exact moment her Hollywood dreams finally felt like reality.

While many know her as the fierce Jyn Erso in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story or for her Oscar-nominated turn in The Theory of Everything, Jones recently revealed that it was a much smaller, intimate project that truly defined her career.

During an appearance on Collider Ladies Night, the British star opened up to host Perri Nemiroff about her early days in the industry. Like many actors starting out, Jones confessed she spent years taking roles that didn’t quite click with her personal vision.

“I’ve definitely had that, where you’re doing parts and work, and it wasn’t really representative of what I want to say,” Jones admitted during the interview.

Everything changed in with the release of the indie darling Like Crazy. The film, which currently holds a % score on Rotten Tomatoes, follows the gut-wrenching long-distance romance between Anna (Jones) and Jacob, played by the late Anton Yelchin.

The story struck a chord with audiences—and with Jones herself—as it explored the hurdles of a British exchange student denied re-entry to the U.S. after overstaying her visa.

For Jones, the film was more than just a job; it was a soul-searching moment. “I think definitely Like Crazy was quite a moment of feeling, ‘Oh, this,’” she shared. “I very much had wanted to do that kind of work.”

The actress explained that she grew up obsessed with independent cinema, and landing a role that mirrored those gritty, emotional stories was a breakthrough. “That film suddenly felt like, ‘Oh, I’m sort of doing what I was planning to do.’ Probably with that film it felt like everything sort of came together in the right way.”

The buzz surrounding the film did more than just satisfy her creative itch—it catapulted her onto the A-list. Shortly after, she was cast in major blockbusters like The Amazing Spider-Man and Inferno. Just three years later, she found herself at the Academy Awards as a Best Actress nominee for her role as Jane Hawking.

Fans on social media have been quick to celebrate the throwback mention. “Like Crazy is still one of the most realistic depictions of love ever put on screen,” one fan shared on X. Over on TikTok, clips of Jones and Yelchin’s chemistry in the film continue to go viral among a new generation of indie film lovers.

The movie’s cast was also a secret powerhouse of talent. Long before she was an Oscar winner, Jennifer Lawrence appeared in the film, alongside Juror star Chris Messina and Twilight’s Charlie Bewley.

While Jones is currently gaining awards buzz again for the A epic The Brutalist—where she stars alongside Adrien Brody—she clearly hasn’t forgotten the indie roots that started it all.

For those who want to see the performance that made Felicity feel like a “real” actress, Like Crazy is currently available to stream on Paramount+.
