HBO Max Apologizes After Using Emma Roberts’ Childhood Photo Instead of Emma Watson’s

A little bit of “Confundus” charm may have accidentally hit the editing room at HBO Max.

Fans across social media are having a field day after noticing a hilarious—and very viral—case of mistaken identity during the highly anticipated special, Harry Potter th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts.

While the reunion was designed to celebrate the magical legacy of the iconic film franchise, one eagle-eyed fan on X (formerly Twitter) realized that a childhood photo meant to represent a young Emma Watson was actually a photo of American Horror Story star Emma Roberts.

“GUYS HELP ME THATS LITERALLY EMMA ROBERTS NOT EMMA WATSON,” the fan wrote, sparking a wave of likes and shares as the internet rushed to verify the claim.

The photo in question features a young girl wearing a pair of Minnie Mouse ears while enjoying breakfast. A quick scroll through Roberts’ own Instagram feed confirms the shot belongs to the Scream Queens alum, not the woman who brought Hermione Granger to life.

While the “Emma-geddon” mix-up provided a much-needed laugh for viewers, the rest of the special delivered the emotional depth fans have been waiting two decades for.

Watson, , sat down with costars Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint to discuss the highs and lows of their sudden childhood fame. In a vulnerable moment, the actress admitted she nearly walked away from the franchise during a period of intense loneliness.

“The fame thing had finally hit home in a big way,” Watson explained.

Her costar Tom Felton added, “People definitely forget what she took on and how gracefully she did it.”

The reunion also leaned into the viral “Dramione” ship, much to the delight of fans who have long rooted for Hermione and Draco Malfoy to be a pair.

Watson confessed she once had a major crush on Felton, , after a tutoring session where they were asked to draw what they thought God looked like.

“Tom had drawn a girl with a backward cap on a skateboard and I just don’t know how to say it, but I just fell in love with him,” Watson recounted.

Though she admitted they “love each other,” Felton clarified that their bond has always been more like that of siblings.

“I’ve always had a soft spot for her and that continues to this day,” he shared.

Since hanging up her Hogwarts robes, Watson has become as well known for her activism as her acting, serving as a UN Women Goodwill ambassador.

Meanwhile, Emma Roberts—the unintentional star of the reunion’s biggest blooper—has carved out her own iconic path in Hollywood, starring in hits like Unfabulous and American Horror Story.

Mistaken identity aside, it’s clear that both Emmas have a permanent place in the hearts of fans—even if only one of them actually attended Hogwarts.
