The end of the world is officially trending, and it looks a lot more like a chaotic, star-studded house party than your typical Hollywood disaster movie. A brand-new, R-rated red band trailer for the upcoming comedy “This Is the End” has finally debuted, and it is sending social media into an absolute frenzy.
The premise of the film is pure meta-gold: Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, James Franco, and Jay Baruchel all play fictionalized, highly “heightened” versions of themselves attending a massive rager at Franco’s house. The only problem? The literal biblical apocalypse decides to crash the party, forcing Hollywood’s elite to fight for survival.
As the trailer makes its rounds on TikTok and X (formerly Twitter), one particular moment has instantly become a massive talking point: an unforgettable, jaw-dropping encounter between music icon Rihanna and Michael Cera.
The Slap Heard ‘Round the Internet
In the viral clip, Cera—playing a much more intense and out-of-control version of himself—gets a little too close for comfort with the “Umbrella” singer. Rihanna’s response is a swift, hilarious slap that fans cannot stop replaying.
“Rihanna slapping Michael Cera is the cinematic event of the decade,” one fan joked in a viral post on X that quickly racked up thousands of likes.
As it turns out, the incredible realism of the moment was not just great acting. Behind-the-scenes reports suggest that the slap was % real. Cera reportedly encouraged Rihanna to actually hit him during the take to make the scene look as authentic as possible, proving his ultimate commitment to the comedic craft.
Emma Watson Swaps Magic for a Massive Axe
Rihanna isn’t the only superstar breaking the internet in this new footage. Hollywood sweetheart Emma Watson is also sparking major online buzz with her unexpected appearance in the trailer.
Swapping her clean-cut image for a survivalist attitude, the “Harry Potter” alum is seen crashing into the boys’ barricaded house looking singed but ready for battle. Oh, and she is wielding a massive axe.
Seeing the real-life Hermione Granger go completely rogue and threaten the comedy crew has sent her massive fandom into absolute overdrive.
A Meta-Comedy Sensation
The film marks the highly anticipated directorial debut of long-time collaborators Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, the creative minds behind comedy classics like “Superbad” and “Pineapple Express”. By leaning into the “meta” aspect of celebrities playing themselves, the duo has managed to create a viral sensation before the movie even reaches theaters.
Between the endless celebrity cameos, Craig Robinson hilariously trying to take inventory of “dead famous people,” and the sheer absurdity of seeing our favorite stars panic, the online buzz is hitting a fever pitch.
From the looks of this wild trailer, absolutely no celebrity is safe from the end of days—and fans wouldn’t have it any other way.
