Megan Fox has been a household name since she first slid under the hood of a Camaro in Transformers, but fans should not expect to see her boarding a Star Destroyer anytime soon.
While the actress is currently garnering buzz for her gritty performance in the thriller Till Death, it is her comments about a galaxy far, far away that are officially going viral. In a candid new interview, Fox admitted that while she actually misses the adrenaline of a big-budget blockbuster, she has a very specific reason for saying “no” to the world’s biggest franchises.
The mother of three revealed to Yahoo! Entertainment that her deep-seated love for legendary series like Star Wars and J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth is exactly what keeps her off the cast list.
Preserving the Cinematic Magic
“It’s hard because there are certain things that I’m a fan of, that I love them so much that I wouldn’t want to be in them,” Fox explained.
The actress confessed that she nearly took the plunge years ago when a certain fantasy epic came calling.
“For an instant a long time ago when they were casting a new character in The Hobbit movies, one of the elves, a part of me was like, ‘I have to do it,’” she recalled.
However, her inner fangirl ultimately won out.
“A part of me was like, ‘No, it’ll ruin it for you forever to have to be on the inside of it, it kills the magic,’” she admitted.
For Fox, the struggle is real when it comes to separating her work from her fandom. She explained that seeing her own performance on screen would essentially break the illusion of her own enjoyment.
“Who doesn’t want to be in a Star Wars movie?” she asked. “But then, at the same time, it’s like, ‘I can’t love the movie anymore because I have to look at my stupid face and be upset about all the things I did wrong in it.’”
Fans Rally Behind Her Logic
Social media users on X and TikTok have been quick to weigh in on her confession, with many calling her perspective the most relatable thing she has ever said.
“I totally get it,” one fan commented on X. “Once you see how the sausages are made, you can’t just enjoy the meal anymore!”
Another user on TikTok agreed, writing, “Honestly, protecting your favorite movies from your own self-criticism is so real.”
This dedication to preserving the magic marks an evolution for the star, who spent years being typecast in provocative roles following her breakout as Mikaela Banes. These days, Fox is focused on versatile projects that showcase her range and her voice, while also speaking out against industry sexism.
While fans have spent years campaigning for her to play iconic characters like Lara Croft or Wonder Woman, Fox has stayed true to her own path, choosing smaller, craft-focused films over easy franchise paychecks.
But do not count her out of the mainstream just yet. While she is incredibly protective of her favorite fandoms, Fox has not closed the door on Hollywood blockbusters entirely.
Until she finds a universe she is willing to risk “ruining” for herself, we will just have to enjoy Megan the same way she enjoys Star Wars: from the comfort of the audience.
