Jennifer Lawrence is finally weighing in on the world of Panem without Katniss Everdeen!
Two years after The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes introduced fans to a young Coriolanus Snow and the tribute Lucy Gray Baird, our original District hero is sharing her official verdict on the prequel.
The Oscar winner, , sat down for a high-stakes Lie Detector Test with Vanity Fair, where she was grilled by her Die, My Love co-star Robert Pattinson. Naturally, the conversation turned to the franchise that made her a household name.
When Pattinson asked if she had actually seen the prequel and, more importantly, if she liked it, Lawrence didn’t hesitate. She gave a simple “Yes” to both, marking the first time she has shared her thoughts on the film since its release.
The social media buzz didn’t stop there, though. Things got hilariously tense when the topic of music came up.
Pattinson jokingly asked if her gravelly, chart-topping version of “The Hanging Tree” from Mockingjay – Part was better than Rachel Zegler’s folk-inspired rendition in the prequel.
“No, obviously not,” Lawrence quipped, giving a graceful nod to Zegler’s powerhouse vocals.
The No Hard Feelings actress also shocked fans—and Pattinson—by revealing she originally auditioned for the Twilight franchise. When asked if she thought The Hunger Games was “cooler” than the vampire saga, she surprisingly said “No.”
While the lie detector machine ruled her answer as “truthful,” Lawrence couldn’t help but laugh. “Breaking news, this machine is broken,” she joked, later admitting she might have slipped a few lies past the examiner during the test.
Fans on X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok are already dissecting every clip. “J.Law being a Rachel Zegler stan is the energy we needed today,” one fan wrote. “The way she still supports the franchise after all these years is so wholesome,” another added.
While Lawrence didn’t make a cameo in The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes—which was set years before Katniss’s time—fans are holding their breath for her potential return in the next project.
Lionsgate recently confirmed a movie adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ newest book, Sunrise on the Reaping, which hit shelves in March . The story follows a young Haymitch Abernathy (played by Joseph Zada) during the th Hunger Games.
While it is another prequel, the book features a flash-forward epilogue where an older Haymitch interacts with Katniss and Peeta. This has led to frantic speculation that Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson could film a top-secret reunion.
Lawrence has previously told Variety she would be ” percent” down to return, saying, “If Katniss could ever come back into my life, totally.”
Whether or not she steps back into those iconic boots, Lawrence’s stamp of approval on the new era of the franchise proves that for the original girl on fire, the odds are still very much in her favor.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is currently filming and is set to hit theaters on November , .
