Jennifer Aniston is taking a very quick break from her signature look.
In a Lolavie video shared to Instagram on Tuesday, Jan. 6, the actress, 56, responds to a question about her hair color asked by someone off camera. “Would I ever go brunette? I am brunette,” she replies.
Courteney Cox then emerges in a light pink bathrobe. “Here, this is what she looks like brunette,” she says before draping her dark hair over Aniston’s head.
“That’s black,” Aniston playfully quips.
“It’s not black,” Cox retorts.
“It’s dark,” Aniston insists.
“Oh, this is like the Horrible Bosses character I played,” she then remarks, referring to the 2011 comedy in which she sported a dark brown wig.
The Lolavie founder ditched her signature golden locks for the movie, a decision that she says “was not an easy battle.” In Aug. 2025, the Friends alum reflected on rewatched a few of her movies for a segment with Vanity Fair and shared that she “fought for” the wig she wore in Horrible Bosses.
“I wanted [my character] to look different. The argument from the studio [Warner Bros.], and I am sorry to call you out, was that ‘we are afraid it won’t look like you.’ That’s kind of the point! I still think it might look like a little bit like me. But I’m glad I fought for it and stuck to my guns.”
“I was always seen as a girl next door or the ingenue,” the actress continued. “It was so fun to play something like this because it’s so far away from anything that I am. That’s what the director liked. It’s so much not what you would expect from [me]. That was the fun of it. That’s what made it more creatively exciting for me obviously.”

In Horrible Bosses, Aniston starred as Dr. Julia Harris, a dentist who harasses her assistant (Charlie Day) and threatens to tell his fiancée they had sex if he doesn’t begin an affair with her. The R-rated comedy was a departure from Aniston’s previous roles, most notably her portrayal of Rachel Green on Friends.
The actress became known for her hair while starring on the sitcom from 1994 to 2004. The haircut that hairstylist Chris McMillan gave her during this time period became known as “The Rachel” and later became a global phenomenon. The actress later admitted that she “hated” the haircut.
In a 2011 interview with Allure, Aniston jokingly called McMillan “the bane of my existence because he started that damn Rachel, which was not my best look … How do I say this? I think it was the ugliest haircut I’ve ever seen.”
