Jennifer Aniston proved once again why she is America’s sweetheart, showing her vulnerable side during a deeply emotional appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show this Friday.
The -year-old actress found herself overcome with emotion while reminiscing about a legendary co-star and a heartbreaking personal loss that still stings years later.
The waterworks began when Aniston started discussing her close bond with Rumor Has It co-star Shirley MacLaine. As she reflected on their friendship, the Friends alum began to tear up mid-conversation, catching both the audience and host Drew Barrymore by surprise.
Sensing the shift in energy, Barrymore gently checked in, asking the actress what had brought on the sudden wave of emotion.
“I was with her when my dog passed away,” Aniston shared through tears, referring to her famous Welsh corgi-terrier mix, Norman.
Norman, who was a constant fixture by Aniston’s side for over a decade, passed away in May at the age of . Even though years have passed, the memory of his final moments remains raw for the star.
Aniston revealed the spiritual—and slightly “crazy”—circumstances surrounding Norman’s passing, explaining that she was visiting MacLaine’s ranch in New Mexico at the time.
“I was at her ranch in New Mexico doing a past life regression retreat,” Aniston said while wiping away tears. “Which sounds crazy when I say it like that! Are you worried about me because I’m crying, and my dog… I’m talking about Norman. Oh my gosh.”
The bond between Aniston and the -year-old MacLaine goes far beyond typical Hollywood friendship. According to Aniston, the Oscar winner believes their connection spans lifetimes.
“She believes that we were a mother and daughter in a previous lifetime, and I think it’s why we have such an instant bond,” Aniston added. “She’s just fantastic.”
Fans on social media immediately rallied around the actress, with many praising her for being so open about the grief of losing a pet. “Seeing Jen cry about Norman made me sob. Pet loss is a different kind of pain,” one user wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
But the episode wasn’t all tears. The duo quickly shifted gears to talk about a potential “dream team” collaboration that would send moviegoers into a frenzy.
Aniston and Barrymore expressed their mutual desire to star in a film together, potentially alongside their mutual bestie, Adam Sandler.
“We’re gonna do something,” Aniston teased. “You know, you, me, and Adam—I’m looking for it still.”
Barrymore was immediately on board, telling Aniston: “I would literally change my life to go do a movie with you and Adam. Nothing would be a better time.” Aniston even threw out a potential remake idea, suggesting a new take on the cult classic Death Becomes Her.
Before wrapping up, Aniston shared one more dream that she hasn’t checked off her bucket list yet: the bright lights of Broadway.
“When I saw Annie for the first time, I thought, ‘Oh God, to be able to be on Broadway,’” Aniston admitted, noting her deep respect for the stage community. “I would be honored if I would be invited into it.”
Barrymore spoke for everyone when she replied, “I think if you look up the definition of a hot ticket, it would be you on Broadway.”
Whether she’s headlining a Netflix hit or making us cry over her beloved Norman, one thing is clear: Jennifer Aniston’s heart is as big as her career.
