‘The Rookie’ star is competing on ‘Dancing With the Stars’ — and some fans aren’t happy about it

“The Rookie” fans will soon be able to watch one of their favorite TV firefighters bust a move on “Dancing With the Stars.”

Jenna Dewan, who has played Bailey Nune since season 3 of the ABC procedural, is competing on the upcoming 35th season of “DWTS” — and she’s far from a dancing rookie.

Dewan, 45, was a backup dancer for Janet Jackson during her 2001 “All for You Tour.” She later showed off her extensive dance training in the 2006 film “Step Up.” Some “DWTS” fans think Dewan is too experienced to compete on the show.

“Well that’s just hideously unfair to the other people,” one person wrote via Reddit.

“I love Jenna and I think this could be a great opportunity for her, but I also absolutely hate the fact that she’s a professionally trained dancer,” another fan agreed. “She’s literally gonna dance circles around everybody else.”

Others don’t see a problem with celebrity contestants having varied skill levels.

“Most actors and musicians will have some level of dance experience,” one Reddit user argued.

“Being a former dancer doesn’t equal being good at ballroom technique,” another pointed out. “It’s fun to have [novices] mixed in with good dancing otherwise it would just be painful to watch.”

Dewan is not the first professional dancer to compete as a celebrity on “DWTS.” Past examples include “Glee” alum Heather Morris, who was a backup dancer for Beyoncé, and Broadway performer Jordan Fisher.

Earlier this month, “DWTS” pro Jenna Johnson defended the show’s history of casting experienced dancers.

“I’ve had somebody with absolutely no experience. I’ve had somebody with experience. I’ve had an Olympian,” she told Us Weekly of her past celebrity partners. “There’s a wide range, but ‘Dancing with the Stars’ is such a different beast. … This is the first time they’re ever doing ‘Dancing With the Stars.’ That’s very different.”

The Rookie Fans Get Surprise Release Before ABC TV Show's Season 9 Premiere

Several “DWTS” winners had no prior formal dance training, including season 34’s Robert Irwin and season 33’s Joey Graziadei.

The full season 35 cast will be announced live on “Good Morning America” on Sept. 2. Several contestants have already been announced: Dewan, baseball player Jackson Olson, comedian Guillermo Rodriguez and reality TV stars Ciara Miller, Maura Higgins, Sarah Jane Nader, Conner Leavitt and Tyler Cameron.
